Somewhere along the way the food industry became the one leading the conversation about food and nutrition.
.
We were told to look only at the nutrition label of a product.
How many calories?
How many carbs?
How much fat?
.
We missed teaching the part about sugar and its impact on our health.
No one taught us to turn the box over... look at ingredients... or chemicals... or anti-nutrients .
Our “food” is now filled with chemicals, additives, dyes, artificial ingredients, carcinogens, and GMOs.
.
“Food” Sprayed with chemicals, grown with chemicals, fed… chemicals.
.
My friends, food is medicine… food is fuel... if our food is sick… we will be sick.
.
It’s no coincidence that chronic illness (in adults AND children) is on a rise while chemical filled food is sold in abundance.
.
Did you know that Europe has banned the use of food dyes Red no. 40, Yellow No. 5 and No. 6.?
linking them to behavior disorders (ADD/ADHD) in children.
.
The chemicals BHA and BHT are restricted in Europe and allowed in the US.
Even through a Government report shows BHA to be a “human carcinogen based on sufficient evidence.”
.
My friends… the point is to share it is up to use to be our own advocates.
There are SO MANY other ingredients like these hidden in the food we eat and feed our children.
The more we educate ourselves, the healthier we will be.
The healthier we are, the stronger we are.
.

He has arrived! Our Shepherd’s Treasure started his journey to find the Baby Jesus & share the meaning of Christmas.
.
We’ll share his Advent journey on @faithfilledlearner
🌟❄️🎄 Our Shepherd will travel each night searching for Jesus and along the way share the sparkle of Christmas.
.
Our Shepherd won’t have a name until Isaiah is ready to choose.
.
An Angel gave our Shepherd a very important mission long ago, to help children find true treasure each Christmas season.
.
Each day when we wake up, we will find our Shepherd and see what he has to share.
.
But we cannot disturb him or move him while he is on his quest, or he may get lost. 🙈
.
Our Shepherd will prompt us through Advent cards and Bible verses to learn.
.
He will also teach us about giving to others, being thankful, and to find rest in God.
.
Along the way we anticipate that we will meet a few wisemen, create a few gifts to give, and have a Birthday Celebration for Jesus.🧁
.
On Christmas Day we will find Jesus, on a soft bed of hay… just like he was on the 1st Christmas Day.
.
I am excited to have the Shepherd teach us about the story of Christmas.
I love the purpose behind our Shepherd. 🎅 Instead of reporting back to Santa, he is instead sharing a story over 25 days.
.
I see it as an opportunity for play/activity style learning. Did you know…
“Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain – unless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10 and 20 repetitions!”

Play based and activity style learning just seems more efficient. ;-)

Creating a diverse gut microbiome is essential to all aspects of life.

When a soil is well taken care of and nourished, it provides a variety of good bacteria that surpasses a store bought probiotic.

While over the counter probiotics can be helpful for repairing and healing a gut, the golden child of probiotics is right here in soil and nature.

A healthy gut, fed good bacteria is important for...

Farm Day for us is more than the novelty of the Farm and bringing home food.

Learning how food SHOULD BE treated and nurtured.
Learning the in-depth process of what goes in to growing healing food... and the labor that goes in to it, too.

Overtime... say the last 100 years... we’ve completely disconnected as a culture from our food.

Highly processed... chemical sprinkled... Franken-Food has started to rob us of our health, nourishment, pro/pre-biotechs, & key vitamins + minerals for a THRIVING life.

Sadly, as a culture, we are losing touch with our food.
Food is fuel.... And medicine when used appropriately.

Thanksgiving appetizer or a reason to take advantage of all the pumpkin sales! 🎃

If you’d like a more smoked flavor, add 1 tsp of smoked paprika, also.

Pumpkin Hummus
.
Ingredients
1/2cup pumpkin puree
1, 15 oz can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/2 lemon juiced
1-2 garlic cloves
2tablespoons tahini
4tablespoons extra virgin olive oil(save 2to drizzle over hummus before serving)
1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt
1/2teaspoon ground cumin
1/2teaspoon ground chili powder
1/4teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
.
Instructions
.
1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor. Process or blend until smooth, stopping occasionally to scrape down sides of food processor.
.
2. Drizzle 1-2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil over the top and serve with raw veggies or crackers.

Thanksgiving chartruterie board inspiration. Translation: an appetizer platter with a little of everything.

A google search for chartruterie board will give you the answer of… cured meats, cheeses, veggies, nuts, olives, dried fruits, crackers, and more!
.
Here is some inspiration for your Thanksgiving chartruterie board.
.
- Pumpkins made from mandarin oranges and celery stick (stems)
I learned from @wildmoming
- Nuts, flavored or plain
- Artisanal Crackers or dried bread
- dried fruit: dates, dried apples, dried persimmons
- Cornichons (little pickles)
- Salami
- Fig Jam
- Local Honey
- Olives, plain or stuffed
- Veggies with Homemade hummus (recipe below)
.
Garlic Hummus
INGREDIENTS
* 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, rinsed and drained, or 1 ½ cups cooked chickpeas
* Juice from 1 ½ to 2 lemons
* 3-4 medium-to-large clove garlic
* ½ - 1 tsp teaspoon pink, to taste
* ½ cup tahini **This is usually found by the peanut and almond butters at the store**
* 2 to 4 tablespoons COLD water, more if needed
* ½ teaspoon ground cumin
* 1 tablespoon avocado or EVOO
.
INSTRUCTIONS
1.Add chickpeas to a medium saucepan and cover with several inches of water. Heat until the chickpeas are at a boil and reduce heat to a simmer for 20 minutes. You will know they are done when the skins are separating. Strain the chickpeas and rinse them with cool water, in a fine mesh strainer.
.
2.While the chickpeas are cooking, add lemon, salt, and garlic to a food processor or high-powered blender. Blend until garlic is minced. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes.
.
3.Add the tahini to the food processor and blend until the mixture is creamy.
.
4.Add the cumin and the drained, cooked chickpeas to the food processor. While you are blending the chickpeas, slowly add the cold water to the mixture. You will probably need to stop and scrape the side. Blend until smooth.
.
5.While running the blender, slowly add in the avocado or olive oil and blend until the entire mixture is smooth.
.
6.Taste the mixture and add in more salt, lemon or garlic until the hummus has reached your preferred taste preference.
.
7.Transfer to a serving dish and garnish however you would like.

Your Susan might be Uncle Jim who quizzes your homeschooled kids or compares them to his peers in the room. Wants the whole scoop on how in the WORLD your children will ever be “socialized”!

Your Susan might be your Grandmother who thinks your choice to feed your kids differently is “depriving them”. Green M&Ms and broccoli are basically the same thing, just give in already!!

Your Susan might be your mom, who STILL “thinks you should go see the doctor about that wart that fell off 7 years ago.”... she thinks you hate doctors, but really you just love nature’s medicine and your intuition.

In all seriousness... as the Holiday Season gears up... maybe of us are faced with facing unsupportive, passive, lost SUSAN. We anxiously await the day... or the comments... or questions.

Last night @the_mom_me_mentor reminded me... the greatest power we have is our reaction and ability to manifest positive outcomes.

The rainbow… only seen after a storm when the light begins to shine.

The greater the storm, the brighter the rainbow.
In this morning’s rain and sunshine, we reflected on the RAINBOW.
.
In nature and in our lives.
.
Our son, our little rainbow baby, is named after the message I received over and over in my first season of waiting.
“At the right time, I, the LORD, will make it happen.” - Isaiah 60:22
.
583 days… separate the beginning of the first waiting season and his arrival. 2 loses… navigating our grief, wonders, and struggles.
.
.
This season… God’s repetitive word is…
"The pain you have been feeling can't compare to the joy that is coming." - Romans 8:18
.
.
205 days since beginning this 2nd season of waiting.
A learning season.
.
.
👉🏻I’m learning to let go of living up to the expectations others have placed on me.
AKA people pleasing.
Especially if those expectations are unrealistic.
.
👉🏻I’m learning to STOP APOLOGIZING for the wife… the mother…or for who I am… Since I work diligently to serve my husband and son from a place of 💜love.💜 ALWAYS.
.
👉🏻I am learning to decipher God’s voice from my own internal desires.
A painful lesson I learned last month when I thought FOR SURE “this was it” and it wasn’t...
.
.
I believe relationships cannot thrive without FULL vulnerability.
I don’t believe in superficial, crap.
.
I share my story vulnerably so that people don’t think when the storms hit their lives that they are alone.
.
When storms hit… it is easy to feel like God has negatively singled us out…
IF…
we have gotten sucked in to following only those who share the HIGHLIGHT REEL
