Boosting Your Immune System Naturally
Have you heard about Elderberry Syrup yet? Elderberries are a tale as old as time remedy for cold and flu season. So why am I just now hearing about it? I couldn’t tell you why Elderberries are not a staple in every home, but I can tell you they should be. Elderberries are the natural way to boost the immune system and fight colds and flu. Instead of reaching for the over the counter Emergen-C or cold medicine, we should be giving elderberries our attention.
What Makes Elderberries so Great?
Elderberries are extremely high in vitamin C, flavonoids, and virus fighting proteins. These little berries are loaded with antioxidants which aren’t just great for fighting colds and the flu, but for fighting cancer and diseases as well. Elderberries are higher in flavonoids and antioxidants than blueberries, goji berries, and cranberries. Elderberries have anti-inflammatory properties, so they can help with allergies and sinus infections too.
Elderberries have also been shown to shorten the duration of the flu, when taken at the onset of symptoms. It can provide symptom relief within 2-4 days. That’s amazing!! Elderberries are nature’s flu shot and Theraflu!
Where do You Find Elderberry Syrup?
You can find Elderberry syrup a the local health food store, but you can also find quality syrup online. When choosing an elderberry syrup I recommend an organic option. Nature’s Answer has an organic elderberry syrup that does not have any alcohol or sweeteners here. Nature’s Way also has a Kids variety of the syrup that is sweetened with agave. When choosing a syrup for children, make sure the syrup does not contain honey if the child is under 1 year old.
You can also make your own elderberry syrup at home using dried elderberries and spices like ginger and cinnamon. Another two of nature’s powerhouses for the immune system! Check out this post here for my Instant Pot or stovetop version of Elderberry syrup.
It is so simple to make your own!
Let’s Make Gummy Bears
Let’s face it, everything is a little better when it comes in the shape of a gummy bear. Vitamins are typically easier and more enjoyable to take when in a gummy form, also. When I chose a recipe for elderberry gummies, I wanted be sure that there were additional benefits. I chose to adapt a recipe using tart cherry juice to ensure that these little gummies were packed full of additional benefits.
Tart cherry juice is is a good source of zinc and vitamin C, which increases these gummies ability to boost the immune system. Also, tart cherry juice has naturally occurring melatonin which may help you fall asleep and get better rest.
I drink a glass of tart cherry juice every night before bed to help me fall asleep and keep my immune system strong! I buy my organic tart cherry juice concentrate here. I have a gift card code that will save you $50 on your first order, too! Enter ANNAP at checkout to save on your order!
For sweetness and added anti-bacterial properties I added honey to our gummies!
These cute little gummy bear molds I found on Amazon here and I LOVE THEM!!! I was kind of worried that when I went to go take out the gummy bears that their little legs would stick to the mold and pull apart. NOPE, not the case! This set of gummy bear molds has 6 sheets for molds and came with two droppers. They are also BPA free! They were so easy to use that I will be searching for new recipes to use them for!
Honestly, I was a little worried they would taste icky like chewy, disgusting vitamins. They were seriously SO GOOD!! So much easier to take in gummy bear form than the liquid form like I had been taking before.
I won’t keep you waiting any longer! Here is the recipe for you all!
Have you made your own gummy bears before? I would love to hear about your experience.
